5 Essential Welding Accessories Both Beginners and Professional Should Have

If you're a beginner welder, then you're probably aware of some welding tools that you'll need to purchase. When you're just starting out, it's tempting to purchase just about any welding accessory that you come across. If you have the funding to do so, then go for it!

However, there are some welding accessories that are a must whether you're a beginner or a professional welder. Even those DIY welders can't start welding without these 5 absolutely necessary welding accessories. Continue reading below to find out more, and check these items off your list before you begin your welding career!

1. Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet

The first item on our must-have list of welding accessories is an auto-darkening welding helmet. Your welding helmet is your most important welding tool, and you'll need it to be as user-friendly as possible. That's why we recommend the auto-darkening helmet.

Choosing a helmet that isn't auto-darkening leaves you with the chance of not seeing your workpiece through the helmet's lens. This could then lead to improper welds. An auto-darkening helmet allows you to see your workpiece before you begin welding, which is convenient and yields better results.

2. Welding Gloves

The next must-have item on our list is welding gloves. Without welding gloves, you take the risk of having nerve damage done to your hands, which could ultimately result in never welding again. Don't take the risk, invest in a solid pair of welding gloves.

Some welding gloves are made thicker than others. These kinds are best for beginners because they allow you to pick up hot pieces of metal for a couple of seconds. There's also a thin type of welding gloves, which is great for TIG welding because you can get a better and firmer grip on the torch.

3. Welding Magnets

One welding fabrication tool that is necessary for all welders to have is a welding magnet. Welding magnets allow you to hold your workpiece in place while you weld and they allow you to hold pieces in place at 90° angles. They're great for when welding metal frames to tables and more.

There are several different sizes that you can purchase. Smaller ones are for small projects and the larger ones are for the bigger projects. Just make sure you purchase multiple welding magnets because you'll need one magnet on each corner of a square frame you're welding.

4. Metal Brush

If you're using a welding process that creates slag, then you'll need a metal brush handy. For example, when using a welding process that creates slag, you'll need to brush off the slag coating before the final weld is revealed. Metal brushes do a great job at scrapping the slag off.

5. Safety Glasses

Last on our list is safety glasses. Every welder whether beginner, professional, or DIY needs safety glasses. These are necessary when using an angle grinder. The sparks that visibly fly off from the grinding disks are actually small pieces of metal.

Your safety is the most important thing to consider before beginning a welding process. You won't want one of those hitting your eye.
